The South West Cyber Resilience Centre (SWCRC) is delighted to announce that Phil Cracknell has joined our Advisory Board.

Phil Cracknell - new member of the SWCRC advisory board

Phil brings with him over 3 decades of hands-on experience in cyber security, risk management, and information security leadership, having held 8 Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) roles across multiple sectors. His career has spanned work with organisations including HomeServe, Yell, Camelot, Skype, London City Airport, TNT Express, Arriva and UK Power Network among many others.

Phil is recognised as one of Europe’s leading cyber security experts and his contributions to the field have been acknowledged through numerous prestigious awards include Cyber Security Personality of the Year (2015) and BCS Information Security Professional of the Year (2014).

Phil has a long history of helping both public and private sectors strengthen their cyber defences. He served as cyber security SME for the UK Government’s Cabinet Office, worked closely with the Ministry of Defence, and was previously the CISO for defence contractor Atlas Elektronik. Today, he continues to shape the industry as Head of Cyber Security Development at IASME Consortium, where he leads the Defence Cyber Certification (DCC) scheme, developed for the MOD to assess and certify UK defence contractors.

Beyond his technical experience, Phil has shown passion for collaboration and education within the industry. He founded and chaired ClubCISO, a non-profit community of security leaders, and has shared his insights as a guest lecturer at Oxford University and Royal Holloway.

When he’s not leading in the cyber security world, Phil is committed to giving back to his local community having volunteered as a coastguard and is now training for a rescue boat licence to support his local sea scouts.

We’re thrilled to welcome Phil to our Advisory Board. His experience, leadership, and community-minded approach will play a vital role in guiding the SWCRC as we continue to help businesses across the South West build stronger cyber resilience.
