Want to improve your cyber resilience?

South West Cyber Resilience Centre marks a major milestone as it secures first 100 Core Members

Since launching in November, the South West Cyber Resilience Centre has been rapidly growing its membership numbers and has already reached its first major milestone of 100 core members. Since the lockdown of March 2020, cyber crime has been growing rapidly, but this milestone means that the centre is already making an impact in protecting regional business and the local economy.

The centre is a policing-private collaboration, which operates on a not-for-profit basis, and aims to help regional businesses and charities protect themselves from cybercrime. Cybercrime is a risk to all business, but with some simple changes, they can significantly reduce their chance of falling victim. It needn’t be scary, complex, or unmanageable, and the South West Cyber Resilience Centre is ready to help businesses and charities through, with a free core membership offer currently in place.

Our members come from all different sectors including automotive garages, retail outlets, construction, education including private tutors, holiday cottages and insurance. The Centre is here to help businesses of all types and sizes.

The SWCRC offers a range of membership options depending on the level of support that businesses in Devon, Cornwall, Dorset, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, and Somerset need.

The Core Membership provides businesses with access to a range of resources and tools to help you identify your businesses risks and vulnerabilities, as well as providing guidance on the steps they can take to increase their levels of protection. The membership is aimed at ensuring free support is available to small businesses, including sole traders and micro businesses.

Mark Moore, who is Director of the South West Cyber Resilience Centre and a serving police officer, said: “The government’s Cyber Security Breaches Survey 2020 revealed that 46% of companies were subject of cyber attack during the year, and one in five of those resulted in material loss, of cash or data.

“These attacks cost the business, on average, over 3k, or over 5k for medium and large businesses. The core membership is a free opportunity for businesses to learn how to help protect themselves to try and a avoid a financial loss like this. So, if you are a business owner, sign up to become a core member at the SWCRC, a not-for-profit collaboration between policing, the private sector and academia."
